The Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders welcome JET PRESS
JET PRESS has joined the SMMT, one of the largest and most influential trade associations in the UK. The SMMT is the voice of the UK motor industry, supporting and promoting its members interests at home and abroad. The SMMT speaks directly to governments, stakeholders and the media.
Alison Handley of the SMMT said “I am delighted to confirm that the SMMT Executive Board has now accepted your application for membership of the Society – the beginning of a collaborative partnership which will help grow your automotive business”.
Martin Critchley, the JET PRESS automotive lead, described the application as “A little bit like an interview but well worth the effort. Membership of the Automotive Components Section of the SMMT will be a great benefit. It will help us to tap into the latest trends and remain ahead of the market. With access to a wealth of data and reports we will be able to plan for almost every eventuality.”
Challenging times for the automotive industry
Environmental issues are putting new demands on the automotive industry. Registrations of battery electric cars (EVs) surged to record levels in 2019, up 144%. In 2020 a further 23 new models are set to hit British showrooms so this growth seems set to continue. Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are also proving much more popular, with registrations up by 17.1%.
Along with the rise in EVs is the rapid development of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs). For now, parking sensors and self-parking cars are becoming familiar. Will we all be riding in driverless cars before long? Both vehicle design and manufacturing is changing fast, so JET PRESS is talking to customers about fasteners and other components that help Design Engineers to meet these new challenges.
The SMMT and Brexit Readiness
Another potential disruption for JET PRESS and all other automotive industry players is the departure of the UK from the EU. The SMMT has a Brexit Readiness Programme. This will help JET PRESS deal with every aspect of Brexit from Regulatory Changes to Customs realignment.
Martin says of JET PRESS plans “The leadership of the company has already taken steps to ensure we will continue to service our many customers across the EU. We will be agile. We will make sure to mitigate any risks as they arise and take advantage of opportunities when they come along”.
